Minimising & mitigating the risks of Coronavirus in our local community

As schools across England are busy returning to the ‘new normal’ at the start of term, Oakham School has been letting its local community know about all the safety measures it has introduced as it welcomes back its boarding and day pupils this weekend (the 6th and 7th September).

“We are looking forward to returning to School – welcoming back our diverse community of day pupils and boarders from all over Rutland, the East Midlands, the UK and from across the world,” says Mr Arthur Mayhew, Senior Deputy Head.  “We have spent a great deal of time and care putting rigorous measures in place that will help keep all members of our community safe; our pupils, our staff and all those who live and work in and around the town of Oakham.”

In an effort to reassure members of the town and local community of the extensive protocols that have been introduced, the School has produced flyers that are being handed out to all local businesses, as well as posted through the letterboxes of homes that surround the School’s campus.  The flyer outlines protocols that are in place, including the strict enforcement of all quarantine measures for boarders returning to the UK, and ‘safe to return’ procedures for pupils and staff which includes daily temperature testing for the first two weeks of term.

“The safety measures that we have established are even more wide-ranging than the Boarding Schools’ Association (BSA) COVID-Safe Charter that we, like other boarding schools across the country, have signed,” continues Mr Mayhew.  “However, we wanted to give the local community a clear contact point, should they have any feedback regarding the School’s endeavours to minimise and mitigate the risks of Coronavirus.”
