LUNCHTIME RECITAL PAYS TRIBUTE TO DISNEY

The lunchtime recital on Wednesday 29 September was a rare tribute to the catalogue of wonderful songs composed especially for Disney films over the past 70+ years. Our musical guide, Poppy, is a long-term Disney film enthusiast, and her recital of Disney Ingénue Arias shared six of her favourite songs, with examples from Cinderella (1950) to Frozen (2013). At the recital’s heart was a sequence of four famous songs by long-term Disney house composer, Alan Menken, dating from 1989 to 2010.

Poppy was a superb advocate for these much-loved songs, performing with great character and commitment in front of a large audience in All Saints’ Church. Her story-telling combined brilliantly with her excellent singing voice, which had richness aplenty in the lower register as well as bright soprano tones in the upper register. Her enjoyment of the repertoire was clear to see, making this a memorable experience for the whole audience. It can now be watched on the School website on our lunchtime recitals page. Many congratulations!
