Lower School: Final Concert

On the evening of Thursday 6 June, the serene atmosphere of our school Chapel was transformed by the vibrant sounds of our Lower School ensemble groups and talented soloists. This highly anticipated concert marked the final performance of the academic year for our lower school pupils, showcasing their hard work and dedication.

The evening commenced with a captivating performance by the Lower School Percussion Ensemble, directed by Zoe Wardell. Their rendition of Friend Like Me by Alan Menken, arranged by W. Rapp, percussion teacher, Christina Slominska, and members of the Percussion Ensemble, set a lively tone for the concert.

Following this, the Lower School Guitar Ensemble took the stage under the direction of Ioana Ford. They delighted the audience with two well-known pieces: The Bare Necessities by Terry Gilkyson, and Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, arranged by Michael Langer. The ensemble’s skillful playing brought a fresh, dynamic energy to these classics.

Zoe Wardell returned to the spotlight, this time leading the Lower 1 Djembe Group in a spirited performance of the traditional piece Kuku. The rhythmic beats and synchronized drumming showcased the students’ impressive coordination and rhythmic sense.

The concert continued with the Lower School Strings, conducted by David Williams, who performed Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Waltz. The elegant and dreamy melody was beautifully rendered by the young string players, capturing the audience’s hearts.

Under the baton of Ewan Stockwell, accompanied by Anne Bolt on piano, the Lower School Choir delivered two moving pieces: Be Thou My Vision by Bob Chilcott and You Raise Me Up by Rolf Lovland, arranged by Emerson. The choir’s harmonious voices filled the chapel, leaving a lasting impression on all attendees.

In addition to the ensemble performances, a number of soloists had the opportunity to showcase their talents. Performing in front of their peers, each soloist delivered their pieces with confidence and excellence, earning well-deserved applause from the audience.

The concert was a testament to the hard work and musical growth of our lower school pupils. It was a fitting end to the school year, leaving everyone in attendance looking forward to the musical achievements the next year will bring.
