Lower School Concert: A Dazzling Afternoon

On Friday 8 March, wrapping up a bustling term, our Lower School pupils dazzled in a splendid concert, showcasing their musical talents through both group and solo performances. The concert was an excellent platform to see the result of how hard they have worked in their individual lessons and ensemble rehearsals to an audience filled with family, peers, and the broader school community.

Both of our Lower School vocal groups performed with Cantamus, opening the concert with a positive message singing Bob Marley’s ‘Three Little Birds’, which left the audience ready for a wonderful afternoon of music. To close off the concert our Lower School Choir impressed with ‘Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow’, as well as an exuberant spiritual finale, ‘Climbin’ up the Mountain, Children!’ arranged by Rollo Dilworth.

After a successful Piano Duet Festival, some of our top duos were given the opportunity to share their pieces again.  All of these duets were thoroughly enjoyed by the audience and it was wonderful to see our pianists, perform together with pride.

The afternoon gave opportunity for some of our youngest musicians to take to the stage as soloists. Well done to Prince, Ethan, Enzo and Henry for being brave enough to share their talents with us.

The concert also showcased the full range of instrumental ensembles on offer at Oakham. The Lower School Guitar Ensemble entertained the audience with their performance of ‘Steely Blue’, and a calming rendition of ‘Hallelujah’, with the Lower School Percussion Ensemble performing ‘A.D.M (Acoustic Dance Music)’ and the catchy ‘Mambo No. 5’ for a festive finish to their programme and the first half.  The Lower School Strings opened our second half with 2 lilting melodies and played with passion and enjoyment.

With more than one hundred young musicians performing, the concert was a real celebration of Lower School music at Oakham. Well done to all the students on their confident and musical performances in what was an entertaining and enjoyable concert!
