Leonie through to second round of BBC 500 Word Story Competition

Congratulations to Form L1 pupil Leonie for making it through to the second round of Radio 2’s 500 Word Story Competition!

Each year, Radio 2 launch the largest short story writing competition in the country where children can write up to 500 words on a story about any subject of their choice. There are 5 judging criteria: originality, characterisation, plot, enjoyment and language.

Leonie said: “I am very excited to have got through, and hope that I will get through to the next stage.”

She wrote a story called ‘Who’s the Mummy?,’ which is about what happens when a young girl visits an exhibition of ancient Egyptian artefacts at a museum.

Head of Lower 1, Matthew Sutterby, said: “I am thrilled for Leonie! There were nearly 135,000 entries and only around 5000 stories go to the ‘Reading Agency’ for the second round of judging; what an achievement!”

Leonie will hopefully hear from the organisers of the competition by the end of May to see if she has been successfully shortlisted for the ‘Final 50.

Well done and Good luck!
