Intricate guitar recital

Our weekly Wednesday lunchtime recital series continued with a guitar recital, spearheaded by Imogen and joined by Natasha on violin, culminating with performances by the Guitar Ensemble.

Imogen opened up proceedings with three solo pieces; Sons de carrilhões, Guárdame las vacas and Étude in A minor, op. 60 no. 17. All three showed off Imogen’s impressive technical proficiency on the guitar whilst demonstrating how she is able to switch between styles with ease.

Natasha then joined Imogen on stage and we were treated to two Spanish duets, one by Albeniz and the other by David Bruce. Imogen and Natasha worked well together as a duet bringing panache and energy to the pieces. The performance allowed us to forget about the dreadful weather we have been experiencing lately and brought us all to sunnier climates.

The guitar ensemble concluded the recital, treating us to a Spanish traditional melody, Morenita and Enrique Granados’ Spanish Dance No.2 from his Spanish Dances suite. It was a real pleasure to hear them play the intricate melodies with great accuracy.

A great recital of soothing guitar music.
