Intermediate Biology Olympiad success for Form 6 pupils

Congratulations to the nine Form 6 Biologists who won certificates in the annual Biology Olympiad, a prestigious competition run by the Royal Society of Biology.

Ryan won a Gold Award, Matthew, Sara and Adam won Silver Awards and Teni won Bronze; Kyumin was highly commended and Liberty, Finlay and Jake were all commended.

The test consists of a one-hour multiple choice paper to be taken online and questions were set on topics students are likely to have covered at GCSE and in their first year of A level.

The competition is open to all Form 6 pupils, or its equivalent, and despite the lockdown, over 8500 students took part from all over the world.

Head of Biology, Dr Patricia Ingles, said, “All of our certificate winners should be very proud of their achievements in such a tough competition, especially in such challenging circumstances.”

Biology, which is set to celebrate its 90th year at Oakham School in the autumn, is a popular subject at Oakham and the department is a well-resourced and vibrant learning environment. Its nine experienced and enthusiastic Biology Teachers combine exciting teaching methods and academic rigour to teach its innovative courses.
