Members of the Oakham School community invited 20 schools across Rutland to wear green in support of The National Forest.
This new non uniform day was created by Oakham School teacher, Diana Hallam. Inspired by the need to encourage everyone to be a little bit more green, Diana thought a non uniform day would give pupils the chance to think about the environment, along with raising much-needed funds for trees.
After months of planning and encouraging other schools across Rutland to take part, the ‘Wear Green’ day coincided with what was the nation’s last day of schooling for the Spring Term. Despite this, the school galvanised to still ‘go green’. Members of the Oakham School community donated £2 to wear something green to show their support for this cause – with all funds raised going to The National Forest to plant trees to combat climate change.
In Lower School Houses there was a prize for the greenest dressed person in Ancaster, Lincoln, Sargants and Peterborough House. In the Middle and Upper School some pupils chose to wear a length of green string around their wrist, festival style, in addition to their green-themed non-uniform attire. Staff also got into the competitive spirit with a prize for the greenest dressed member of staff and they took part in a ‘little green shoe quiz’ set by French teacher Mr Yann Toussaint.
