The boys squads have a long history in playing fantastic games against some incredible visiting teams such as XL Club, MCC and Leicestershire Gents. After seeing major development and enjoyment from playing against these travelling teams, Oakham School have been searching for a ‘wandering club’ for the girls to play and reap the same benefits. An email to a Facebook page belonging to Jenny Thompson (@herworldcrickettour) has resulted in Jenny agreeing to bring a side to play against the girls 1st XI in the upcoming summer term.
Fundraising for Learning for a Better World (The LBW Trust), Jenny Thompson is currently touring the world playing and talking about women’s cricket. The prominence of cricket throughout Jenny’s life has ‘done wonders’ for her mental health and self esteem helping her lose herself in the beautiful game and now cricket-related change for women and girls is at the heart of Her World Cricket Tour.
Currently in Costa Rica, Jenny has recently visited Belize and Guatemala and many more countries across the globe, learning more about in these countries as well as meeting some inspirational people – you can keep up to date with her tour on Instagram or Facebook.
Not only this, Jenny will be speaking to the team on her experiences travelling the world and her incredible experiences of cricket through this tour giving our pupils an eye-opening insight into cricket and the impact this sport and her tour has across the world.
