Form 2 pupils recently benefitted from a French and Art cross-curricular day that made them think across disciplines.
The day started with Art activities for the whole year group, and students were given the choice of four different approaches to making, including screenprinting, 3D constructions, textiles, print, collage and drawing. Each workshop focused on something connected to France, Paris, journeys and maps and the students made the most of having an extended time to work in the Art studios. The pupils created an artwork they could then take to their French lesson in the afternoon and were to place themselves in the position of an artist seeking to show their work in an exhibition.
The French department worked hard to prepare specialist vocabulary that would allow the students to talk about their artworks in French.
Director of Art Mrs Elinor Brass said, “It was a pleasure to collaborate with the French department and have more practical time in the studios with Form 2. It was fantastic that the students had the chance to reflect more deeply on the work they had produced and to imagine their work in a real-world setting.”
