Form 6 pupil Ili is Secretary-General MUN conference

Form 6 pupil Ili took centre stage as Secretary-General at September’s International Moderans Model United Nations conference, which took place virtually, discussing a range of global issues between delegates from over 45 countries around the world.

Ili was primarily responsible for the planning and organisation of the 200+ participants to ensure all could access and enjoy the events, activities and discussions. IMMUN welcomed 110 delegates, from over 45 countries, from 6 different continents, making it a truly global experience.

The event was made up of four committees debating issues concerning Global Security, Human Rights, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Exploitation of Women. Throughout the conference Ili was a key figure in the discussion and resolution of each issue in her role as Secretary-General. Specific issues under discussion included Piracy, Sustainability and Refugee Exploitation, and how the world can move forward and address such issues, both during and after the current Coronavirus pandemic,

Ili, who joined the School this year, said: “I have always had a strong interest in global issues and hope to follow a career in this field. This is the 17th IMMUN event in which I have participated and I am really looking forward to sharing my experiences with fellow members of MUN at Oakham.”
