Form 3 pupils learning German have written letters to pupils at Oakham’s German exchange School, the Werner Heisenberg Gymnasium in Weinheim.
Oakham’s Head of German, Mrs Sykes, said, “Frau Peters and I came up with the idea of “Plaudertaschen” to keep the exchange going whilst travel is not easy. Writing letters to pupils at another School is an excellent way to make a German-speaking friend, learn about the culture and improve German language skills. The pupils are looking forward to receiving their letters and to visiting the school again when they can.”
To enhance pupils’ cultural and linguistic knowledge beyond the classroom, Oakham also runs a lower school trip to the Christmas Markets in Lüneburg and Hamburg.
