Form 3 pupils compete in Oakham’s ‘Poetry by Heart’ competition

Form 3 students competed in Oakham’s ‘Poetry by Heart’ competition, delighting the audience with talented performances of their chosen poems. 

There were fourteen participants in total, who performed in front of an enthusiastic audience of friends and supporters. Teachers of English Dr Cade-Stewart and Ms Curtis were the judges. The following students were awarded prizes and all have been invited to compete in the national Poetry by Heart competition.

First place:  Connie Bennet and Finley Sandham

Second place: Joe Marriner and Faith Taylor

Third place: Elizabeth Hensley and Zac Greenhalgh

This competition is the culmination of Oakham’s World Book Day celebrations which saw Form 3 students reciting poems across the site through QR tokens that linked to individual students’ recordings of their performances. Students chose their poems in conversation with friends, teachers and families, so many of Oakham families’ favourite poems were shared around the site for all to enjoy.
