Fantastic Final Orchestral Concert

Oakham’s instrumentalists gave their final Chapel performance of the year in our ‘Summer Celebration’ concert. The Symphony Orchestra treated the audience to a fantastic programme, performing orchestral favourites and accompanying two of our Form 7 Music Scholars in contrasting solo works. After opening with Mendelssohn’s swirling Hebrides overture, the orchestra performed two movements from Dvořák’s lyrical Symphony No. 8. Our two Form 7 Music Scholars shone in their solo pieces; Ivor gave a winning performance of the Romance from Hummel’s Grand Concerto for Bassoon, followed by Dan’s dramatic rendition of ‘It Is Enough’ from Mendelssohn’s Elijah. In a thrilling finale, the Symphony Orchestra finished the concert with an arrangement of John Williams’ score for Jurassic Park, concluding a wonderful concert, and indeed year, of orchestral music-making.

The recording from the concert is available here.
