Lower School pupils raised over £8,000 for Rainbows Hospice and LIV Villages by taking part in the ‘Fab 4 Charity Challenge’ – more than £3,000 over their initial target!
“The aim of the Fab 4 Charity Challenge was to enable each child to do something brilliant off screen, to shine in some things they already do well and to experience, perhaps, some skills further from their comfort zones,” says Malcolm Fairweather, Housemaster of Peterborough House.
All of the pupils were charged with the mission of completing four one-hour challenges in four different areas – physical, literary, creative and kindness –in a single day. They were also set a bonus challenge where they could complete one challenge in four hours (in either one day or stretched across many).
The Literary Challenge saw pupils reading or writing, whilst the Creative Challenge encouraged them to make music or artwork, to dance, design or making something. The Physical Challenge saw them raising their heart rate by walking, cycling, running, swimming or even trampolining – as long as it was for an hour! The Kindness Challenge encouraged pupils to think of something nice to do for other people – either at home or in their local community – such as car washing, gardening or baking for neighbours.
Pupils rose to the challenges in their own unique way including:
· Ffion’s amazing kindness challenge saw her make goodie boxes for doctors which included cakes, preserves and biscuits
· Halle and Otto went on a four-hour cycle ride
· Edward cooked a three-course gourmet dinner for his family
· An array of artworks were created
The money raised has been split between two wonderful charities that help other children: Rainbows Hospice, who support children with a short life to make every minute special, and LIV Villages Project, who provide holistic residential care for orphans and vulnerable children in South Africa.
