Excellent IB Diploma Examination Results

Following a review of the IB Diploma grades awarded earlier this summer, the International Baccalaureate Organisation has now re-allocated a number of grades to pupils around the world and those from Oakham School.  As such, we are delighted to share our pupils’ final grades, which update and supersede those shared in July.

Highlights:

  • 100% pass rate
  • 27% of students achieved 40 or more points, equivalent to 4 A*s at A-level
  • 80% of students achieved 34 or more points, equivalent to A,B,B at A-level
  • The overall equivalent to A-level passes is 77% at A*-A grade
  • The overall equivalent to A-level passes is 93% at A*-B grade
  • An average point score of 36.7, compared with the worldwide average of 29.7

Overall 27% of pupils at Oakham achieved an impressive 40 or more points (out of the maximum of 45) – which is equivalent to 4 A*s at A-level.  There have also been some stand-out individual successes; including one pupil achieving full marks!  Only approximately 0.42% of students from across the world achieve the feat of gaining the full 45 points, and Oakham is delighted to, yet again, see one of its pupils gain this accolade.

As well as pupils enjoying success at the highest level, the School is delighted to have achieved a 100% pass rate and to have also maintained its consistently high average point score, this year at 36.7, which is considerably higher than the worldwide average (of 29.7 points).

“At a time when much of the educational narrative is about what has been missed, it is important to focus on what has been gained,” says Headmaster, Henry Price.  “The cancellation of examinations will have caused very mixed emotions for pupils across the world, but their learning, knowledge and skills remain in place. Recent months have shown that being creative, adaptable, resilient and reflective has never been more important.  These are all attributes that are at the heart of the rich learning experience of the IB Diploma, which, combined with all the experiences of life at Oakham, will serve our pupils well in the future.”

Oakham’s IB Diploma students have, over more than two decades, consistently achieved excellent results. “We have a wonderful community of both British and international students who choose to study the IB Diploma at Oakham,” adds Oakham’s Head of Upper School, Simone Lorenz-Weir.  “Regardless of when they join us on the Oakham School journey, be it at age 10, 13 or 16, they have received an excellent set of results – with 93% of grades achieved (at Higher Level) being equivalent to A*-B grades in A-level.”

“I congratulate all of our IB Diploma pupils on their hard work and their success,” concludes Mr Price. “I commend them, together with their teachers and all who support them, for adapting and responding so well to the disruption to their educational journey.  I also thank them for all they have done to enrich Oakham School and wish them well for a bright future.”

Oakhamians have secured places to continue their studies at top universities across the world including Bath, Brunel, Durham, Edinburgh, Imperial College, King’s College London, UCL and the University of Sydney. They will be studying courses that vary from Mechanical Engineering to History of Art, Law to Industrial Design, Politics to Philosophy, and Animation to Economics.
