On Saturday 18 January, the Rt Revd John Holbrook, Bishop of Brixworth, confirmed 37 candidates, 34 pupils and 3 staff, which is the largest number of Oakham School candidates since 2006.
After nine weeks of preparation at ‘lunchtime drop-in’ confirmation classes held each lunch as well as ‘in house evening session,’ the confirmands demonstrated their commitment to the Christian faith, supported by their friends, family, teachers and godparents, during a special service which was presided over by the Bishop.
The service took place in the School Chapel, with the assistance of the Chapel Choir, who sang an anthem by Elgar (The Spirit of the Lord), music for the Eucharist by Langlais & Mozart, and two communion motets: Duruflé Ubi caritas & Mozart Ave serum.
In his sermon, The Bishop preached about how we follow Christ with our:
· Heads- How Christianity answers the questions this world presents.
· Hearts- Loving each other as Christ loves us.
· Hands- Christ is the Servant King and we should follow his example by service to each other.
A big thank you to Fr Tim Tregunno for organising the day and for making the occasion so memorable for the confirmands and their families. Also thank you to the Bishop of Brixworth for presiding over the confirmation, the Chapel Choir for singing so beautifully and the confirmands for being brave enough to make this personal commitment to Christ.
