Comic Relief: Bake Sale, Red Noses and Sponge the Teacher

Pupils at Oakham School have donned their red noses to raise money for Comic Relief today and have taken part in some exciting fundraising activities.

In the Lower School, pupils all took part in a non-uniform day and hosted a bake sale for Red Nose Day’s 2022 theme of ‘Funny is Power’. One pupil even designed and produced his own comic book which sold out within minutes.

Taking part in quizzes and word searches, the Lower School assembly earlier in the week  focussed on the good causes Comic Relief helps, as well as on the history of Red Noses through Mr Morris’ display of past noses.

Adrian Morris, Head of Lower School, said: “I was very proud of everyone’s efforts in supporting this worthy charity. The colour and spectacle of Red Noses was tremendous, as well as the variety of delicious cakes. Thank you for everyone’s engagement and donations.”

But the fun didn’t stop there…

Middle and Upper School pupils also got involved in the fundraising by taking part in a non-uniform day and setting up a ‘Sponge the Teacher’ activity.

For £1 pupils had two goes to hit their chosen teacher with a wet sponge, resulting in hilarity and cheering from the crowding audience.

Organised by the Form 7 Decem Prefects, the staff in the target line were Head of Upper School Megan Fairley, Deputy Head Academic Leo Dudin and Senior Deputy Head Arthur Mayhew – who were all soaked by the end of the event.

All money raised from today will go towards Red Nose Day’s Comic Relief.
