Oakham School has partnered with local organisations and businesses to host a Careers Fair on campus, providing pupils with an opportunity to learn more about their career pathways for the future.
Form 5 to 7 pupils were given the opportunity to meet over 30 employers at the annual Careers Fair and talk about their routes into a variety of sectors.
The fair offered pupils the chance to explore a wide range of different options, including business and finance, engineering, legal, environmental science, retail, and the military.
Representatives from major organisations such as Dunelm, Barclays Bank and Leicestershire Police, were on hand to inform pupils about their own career paths and give them advice on their next steps after leaving school.
Form 5 pupil Wilfie had a motivating chat with Charlie Reading, award-winning speaker, Chartered Financial Planner, author and entrepreneur, who also attended the fair. Wilfie said, “I found it very interesting to talk to Charlie and learnt more about investments, and how advisors can help those investing. He was also open to offering work experience. He made it easy to ask questions and educated me a lot more in an area I didn’t know too much about.”
Form 5 Pupil Lydia added, “The Careers Fair was an amazing experience. I spoke to a police officer about a career with the police and learned about the many different aspects it covers. I also talked to a landlord/ estate agent. Then finally I talked to Zoe Souter who has worked at Vogue and was a PA to a well-known photographer who photographed the Royal Family and the Beetles. At that moment I just wanted to switch places with her; she was extremely inspirational and lovely to talk to.”
Dr Rachael Pearson, Head of Careers and Progression at Oakham School, said: “Hosting careers fairs such as this is an immensely important part of helping our pupils to think about their future pathways.”

Oakham School works closely with external partners and contacts, as well as its extensive alumni network, to introduce pupils to careers and work experience. Numerous additional events are hosted each year, including a HE Fair, a Science Guest Night, Careers Week, and University Day.
