Biology Olympiad Success for Oakham School pupils

Congratulations to the seven Biologists in Form 7 who won medals and certificates in the 2021 Biology Olympiad, an annual competition, which aims to encourage pupils aged 16+ to take an interest in biology beyond the school curriculum.

Ryan and Matthew won Gold, Liberty won Silver and Adam won Bronze. Teni and Sara received a high commendation and Lilli received a commendation.

It was the competition’s 25th anniversary and 8476 students from 622 schools worldwide took part in this year’s competition. Less than 5% of students worldwide achieved a Gold medal.

Meanwhile in the Biology Intermediate Olympiad for Form 6, 3 pupils won Gold, 3 Silver and 2 Bronze.

Finally in the Biology Challenge for Form 4 15 certificates were awarded, 1 Gold, 5 Silver and 9 Bronze.

Head of Biology, Dr Patricia Ingles, said, “We are very proud of their achievements. The Biology Olympiads are very competitive, and the calibre of students is high. Their involvement in the Olympiad competitions not only boost their knowledge of the subject but also helps to enhance their university applications and Curriculum Vitaes.”

The results demonstrate that Oakham’s young biologists are of an exceptional standard and shows the teachers’ commitment to providing pupils with the highest quality teaching and positive outcomes.
