Oakham’s boarders have enjoyed a term packed full of trips, competitions and social nights, spending time with friends new and old.
From balmy late summer evenings filled with barbecues and outdoor games in the House gardens to cosy nights in singing karaoke and watching movies, there has never been a dull moment for our 500-strong boarding community.
Favourite trips have included boarders tackling the watery obstacle course at Rutland Water Aqua Park, challenging themselves on the high ropes at Leicester Outdoor Pursuits Centre and a night out at Welford Road to see Leicester Tigers in action.
Closer to home, pupils have experienced an array of food-centred social nights; from pizza parties and curry nights in their own Houses to safari suppers enjoyed with other Houses, not to mention a fun-filled bonfire night complete with a spectacular firework display for everyone to enjoy.
In Hodges, our youngest boarders have enjoyed Saturday afternoons packed with Art, DT, cooking, swimming and shopping, whilst in the Middle School Houses, pupils have taken part in a variety of interhouse competitions, as well as Service Weekend expeditions.
There have also been lots of opportunities for the boarders to enjoy a spot of down time amidst the busyness of School life, hanging out with their friends, playing board games or catching up on prep.
Form 4 pupil, Andrada, from Buchanans House, said: “All of the activities that we do at the weekend are really fun and they really help you to interact with each other and get to know people really well. It’s great when we have activities which involve other Houses because it gives us a chance to meet new people.
“Having said that, I really like the Buchanans movie nights we have and we had so much fun when we did a House karaoke night! It was just everybody yelling, and dancing and it was really funny.”
