The Art scholars had a talk and workshop led by artist Amanda Davies on the 18th January. Amanda brought in lots of her work to show the students, sharing with them her inspirations as well as tips on how to play with ideas and materials.
Her training is in print and she works a lot with the layering up of screen printed images, which she prints onto fabric, board and paper. The students could see through her work and explanations, how she pushes images and ideas around, often repeating some elements of the imagery as part of her process. She is exploring the possibility of the imagery and materials, playing with layers, colour and textures.
It was particularly lovely to see her personal sketchbooks and the images that have developed through working at this scale. As well as this, some of the Form 3 scholars had a chance to try screen printing with Amanda’s expert guidance so they could understand the process and consider ways they might use it in the future.
