Oakham School pupils enjoyed another busy weekend with lots of social activities and outings.
On Friday, 300 Oakhamians watched and supported Old Oakhamian, and Leicester Tigers rugby player Jack Van Poortvliet claim a victory against Bath (40-23) in an exciting match at Welford Road. Leicester.
Glen Gelderbloom, Housemaster of Haywoods said, “It was a super night for our boys and girls. They were in good cheer, and it was great to see some top-class rugby.”
On the same evening, the Autumn concert was held in the Chapel with over 200 guests attending. The three major ensembles, the Concert Band, the Chamber Choir and the Symphony Orchestra, rose to the occasion brilliantly, particularly after such a long period away from ‘live’ concert performances. The concert is now available to view online in the Music live section of the website.
Lower School boarders enjoyed an evening of hot chocolate and cupcakes, followed by some pre-bedtime firework spotting, with the local neighbours seemingly letting off all their fireworks in one go!
Saturday saw a number of Sports fixtures take place, including rugby, hockey and squash. In the evening, boarders and staff celebrated bonfire night with a huge fire and a dazzling firework display, courtesy of Oakham’s wonderful grounds team.
On Sunday, Form 3 challenged themselves on the high ropes and leap of faith. Glen said, “Our Form 3 boys certainly enjoyed themselves and had many brave tales to tell. Thank you to all the staff for making this happen.”
Meanwhile, the Lower School boarders headed out to Hollywood Bowl for a game of ten-pin bowling, where all had great fun.
Weekends at Oakham School provide a healthy balance of activities and free time, and outings are carefully planned so that there is a good mix of cultural visits and active pursuits.
