An Interview With: Upper School Art student Olivia

When did you first become interested in art?

I’ve always been a very creative person and would draw and paint with my brother from as early as I can remember. However, I first started to take a real interest in art when I was 14 and I took the time to learn how to draw properly and I drew almost every day in the summer holiday that year.

What is your favourite tool or material to work with?

My favourite materials to work with our acrylic and oil paints, but I have thoroughly enjoyed being able to experiment with other mediums throughout the A level course with one of my newer favourites being collagraph printing.

Where do you find creative inspiration?

I find a lot of inspiration through the people around me and the places I have visited. As a significant part of my project is based around culture and cultural differences, I have found a lot of creative inspiration from visiting the countries my work has been based on and exploring the cultures and meeting new people and hearing their stories. I also find a lot of inspiration in words, whether they come from books, scripture or even song lyrics and conversations, I can often take a small extract from a poem and build a piece from that.

What are you going to study next year?

Media, Communications and Cultural Studies.
