Alicia Kearns MP visits Citizenship pupils to discuss solar farm project

Citizenship pupils have put their questions to MP for Rutland and Melton, Alicia Kearns, recently as part of a project they are doing on a local solar farm proposal.

As part of their research into the proposal of the Mallard Pass Solar Plant in Rutland, the pupils are seeking opinions and views from various individuals and were very excited to speak to their local MP regarding the issues.

During their project on the solar farm proposal for their Citizenship Action, the pupils have been exploring the implications of running a campaign to raise awareness of a problem in society. They have been carrying out pupil surveys, interviews and researching the pros and cons of the project and its links to human rights and communities.

Four pupils were able to sit down with Alicia to ask her about the environmental impact and the potential human rights issues behind the proposed project.

Mr Farrar, Teacher of Citizenship, said: “The opportunity for the students to speak to an elected representative is of huge value to their studies of the democratic process. They will be presenting the case to visitors on our Speech Day on May 28.”
