The last weekend of term was exceptionally busy with Oakham School pupils embarking on their Duke of Edinburgh (DofE), Combined Cadet Force (CCF) and Voluntary Action (VA) challenges for Service weekend.

Congratulations to Oakham’s Director of Netball, Lauren Nicholls, who has joined Superleague netball team Wasps from Loughborough Lightning.

Oakham School recently had a ‘Phab’ day with a national charity, after inviting local young people with disabilities to the campus for a day of activities.

Oakham School has partnered with local organisations and businesses to host a Careers Fair on campus, providing pupils with an opportunity to learn more about their career pathways for the future.

The Form 3 Creative Arts Project Day saw 70 pupils take a trip to see the production of Morgan's cars at their factory in Malvern and take part in the 'Eliminator Boat Duel'.

Lower 1 pupils have enjoyed a day at the Warning Zone in Leicester learning about staying safe and how to protect themselves online.

Form 3 artists enjoyed an exciting Art Project day last Monday, with three artists leading workshops using some diverse approaches and techniques.

Last night saw IB Diploma and A-level Spanish pupils enjoying the termly Film and Pizza evening.

Seventh formers recently attended the ‘Futures Conference’ jointly organised by the Careers Department and Upper School team.

This week saw Form 1 pupils continue with their MYP Community Project, which they started on their MYP Induction day in September. 

Lower 1 were visited by Clan Wulfhar, a Viking reenactment group who shared their knowledge of Viking weaponry, daily life in a Viking household and Viking medicine. 

Oakham’s U14 girls’ hockey team is celebrating after claiming the Tier 1 County Champion title.

Form 2 took their annual trip to Leicester with the Religion and Philosophy (RP) and Geography Departments.

F7 Oakham students have just returned from a very successful MUN Conference held at Cheadle Hulme School over Service weekend.

A group of Form 7 Biology and ESS pupils are on their field course trip at Rhyd-y-creuau in North Wales. FSC Rhyd-y-creuau is set in the beautiful, rugged landsape of the Snowdonia National Park, yet is also close to secluded wooded valleys, rocky shores and beaches.

In celebration of National Poetry Day (7 October) pupils at Oakham School have been getting creative with a project that mixes Art and English together.

The U16 Netball team have finished runners up in the County Championships and are through to the Regional Finals.

The first Biology Society (BioSoc)of the academic year, saw members of Forms 6 and 7 listening to talks relating to different aspects of biology and chemistry.

Rutland Foodbank has received a donation of nearly £1,000 worth of food from pupils at Oakham School following a receipt challenge at their Harvest Festival which will now help provide essentials to families across the county.

Form 5 Religion & Philosophy pupils visited Cambridge Buddhist Centre and Ely Cathedral this week as part of their GCSE course.

Last August saw Oakham’s Foundation Telephone Campaign take place with recent Old Oakhamians having conversations with over 500 members of the Oakham community and raising vital funds.

Form 1 pupils were recently introduced to the IB Middle Years Programme with a visit to the National Space Centre in Leicester and the launch of their IB MYP Community Project. 

Oakham’s U14 netball team are celebrating a County win after winning all 9 games at the County Tournament to secure their place in the Regional Tournament for the 5th year running

The Oakham School Foundation Annual Lunch saw members of the 1584 Society and the Robert Johnson Legacy Society mark the success of coming together to achieve great things for Oakham School. The guests enjoyed a cricket style lunch in BAFS on campus.

Last week saw the return of live theatre to the QET, with the Middle School Drama Scholars putting on the first production of the new academic year - a successful three-night run of ‘The Government Inspector’.

Charlie (Form 4) and Archie (Form 6) entertained us with their accomplished playing on Wednesday 15 September.

Samantha (Form 6) was the next recitalist to perform on Wednesday 22 September. 

To mark European Day of Languages the Modern Foreign Languages Faculty ran a variety of fun activities.

Oakham School welcomed back Old Oakhamian Sam Wolstenholme (‘18) to help coach the 1st XV rugby team in their preparations for the forthcoming competitions against Leicester Grammar, Bedford and Bromsgrove. Sam also helped coach the U14 session.

Lower One pupils enjoyed a visit to nearby Egleton Nature Reserve at Rutland Water to learn about the different habitats found there.

Oakham School welcomed back four Old Oakhamians - Becca Malyon (‘21), Hannah Moursi (‘18), Sassy Norton (‘18), and Ella Turner (‘21) - last weekend, as they joined our Form 7 netballers for some valuable match practice.

Oakham School is celebrating a new accolade after its Design and Technology Department received a prestigious award for its work during the Covid-19 Pandemic

After a two-year break, the 12th Annual Tom Grant Football Festival, held in memory of Old Oakhamian Tom Grant (‘05), took place at the School’s Wilson Fields. Twelve Houses competed in the friendly House competition, all striving to win the Champions League replica trophy.

Congratulations to CCF Officer and Teacher of Geography Duncan Wright who has been awarded the Cadet Forces Medal in recognition of his long and dedicated service to the Combined Cadet Force (CCF)

For the first time in more than 18 months, Geographers were able to  undertake some fieldwork outside of the 'classroom' in preparation for their forthcoming GCSE exams.

Congratulations to Max W and Emily, who were the U17 and U19 county winners respectively of the Leicestershire County Squash competition that was held at the beginning of September. 

Oakham School is pleased to announce that Mrs Anna Steiger has been appointed as the new Director of Admissions.

Form 7 Biology pupils have settled straight back into their lessons this week with PCR testing; something which has become very well known to everyone due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Oakham’s boarders have had a fantastic first weekend of the new school year, taking part in all sorts of activities and trips.

On Friday September 10, the School welcomed Dr Dominque Thompson, who gave talks first to  Form 7 students and then to parents of students in that year group, on the subjects of teenage and student mental health and making successful and smooth transitions to life beyond school.

The first week in September saw Oakham rugby players attend a four-day pre-season training camp at Greshams School.
