Sports tours are a vital part of our sports players’ development, taking them out of their normal school environment to hone their skills ahead of the season in a period of intense training, as well as boosting team spirit by bringing them closer together.
In the past, we have run specialised sports tours all over the world at U14 to U18 level, from tennis in Portugal to cricket in South Africa. On every tour, players are instructed by expert coaches alongside Oakham sport staff, and get to play matches against other teams in the area. When they’re not training or playing, pupils also get a chance to experience the local culture, just as they would on any other school trip. Take a look at our upcoming trips and tours
Every three years, we take a large group of pupils on our major Sports Tour, the School’s biggest trip on the calendar, and a highlight for all who embark upon it. The last Sports Tour, in 2017, took over 140 netball, hockey and rugby players to South Africa for almost three weeks of training, tournaments, and even a safari! Working with the charity Edu Nova, students also visited local primary schools and presented cheques supporting sport in the local schools. In between matches and training, students also managed to find time to visit Table Mountain and Seal Island.
Our next major Sports Tour will take place in 2020, details of which are yet to be confirmed.
