ATP = ADP + Pi + Energy / Energy + Pi + ADP = ATP

Gold medals aren't really made of gold. They're made of sweat, determination, and a hard-to-find alloy called guts.Dan Gable (1948–) American wrestler and coach

I’ve missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.Michael Jordan (1963–) American basketball player

It’s not whether you get knocked down; it’s whether you get up. Vince Lombardi (1913–1970) American football player and coach

From improving our personal fitness levels to developing world-class athletes, the knowledge we now possess to optimise our health is greater than ever before. How sport and physical activity promote health is a multi-million pound industry and Sport Science, with its application of scientific principles to exercise and sport, is a rapidly expanding area and can open the door to a range of jobs in the pharmaceutical, healthcare, fitness and leisure industries.

At Oakham, pupils can study Sport Science IGCSE in Forms 4 and 5, and post-16 as part of the International Baccalaureate Diploma (SEHS), A-level or BTEC courses. All of these programmes of study provide a demanding and scientific approach to the subject, with opportunities to explore both the practical and theoretical aspects of Sport Science.

Our innovative courses and fantastic facilities have led to the increasing popularity of this subject – the Sport Science Laboratory, located in the Mehra Faculty of Science, is one of the top school laboratories in the UK and is home to the latest specialist equipment and resources to aid learning.

In addition to the theoretical components covered in our Upper School courses, students are offered a number of opportunities to investigate the science-behind sport in the real world. This includes visits to leading universities for lab-based physiology testing, and the possibility of experiencing background work conducted at elite, professional sports clubs such as the Leicester Tigers.

Our well-qualified, experienced staff members are committed to supporting our students in achieving excellence within sport while they are studying. Using our Sport Science Laboratory, Strength and Conditioning Suite and specialist equipment, our students can make progress across a number of sports to put the theory they have been learning into practice.
