Double County Cup Success for U15 and U16 Boys’ Rugby Teams
Oakham School is celebrating a fantastic double victory after both the U15 and U16 boys’ rugby teams were crowned County Cup champions in their respective age groups. Oakham’s teams travelled to Hinckley Rugby Club determined to bring home both County Cup titles – and they delivered.
U15 County Cup Final: Oakham vs Loughborough Grammar School
In their tightly contested final, the U15s delivered an impressive performance against Loughborough Grammar School, securing a 29–19 win. The match showcased excellent teamwork, well‑executed tries, and strong defensive play.
Director of Rugby Rupert Harden praised the squad, saying: “Winning the County Cup is a great reward for a year group that has often reached the semi-finals but just missed out. It was a really competitive game, played in great spirit and sunshine – a brilliant experience for the boys.”
U16 County Cup Final: Oakham vs Saint Martin’s Academy
The U16s followed with an outstanding display in their final, dominating Saint Martin’s Academy with a 41–3 victory. Their physicality, discipline, and clinical finishing set the tone from the start.
Rupert added: “Our boys were absolutely awesome. They were disciplined, physical, and incredibly clinical – the best I’ve seen them play. All credit to them.”
A Season of Resilience and Achievement
After a challenging season as U15s last year, the current U16 squad has shown remarkable resilience, securing 7 wins from 11 matches. Their progress reflects their determination, teamwork, and commitment to improvement.
“They’re a real credit to themselves – they defended like warriors and delivered their strongest performance yet.”
A Memorable Year for Oakham Rugby
With the 1st XV winning the National U18 Plate earlier this season and a group of players receiving a masterclass from rugby legend Jonny Wilkinson, these County Cup victories add to an exceptional year for Oakham School rugby.
We look forward to seeing what next season brings for all our teams.
