Oakham School is proud to announce a historic achievement for our Shooting team, who have won the prestigious Green Howards Country Life .22 Smallbore Shooting Competition for the very first time in the event’s 114‑year history.
Our talented team comprising Evie, Valentine, James and Isla delivered an exceptional performance against several leading independent schools, securing Oakham’s first ever victory in this long‑established national shooting competition. Adding to the success, Valentine was named the overall Top Scorer, an outstanding individual accomplishment.
After weeks of dedicated training and extensive practice sessions, the top four shooters were selected to represent the School and their commitment paid off. Remarkably, Oakham’s A and B teams placed first and second, highlighting the depth of skill within our Shooting programme.
The Green Howards, a historic British Army regiment, originally funded the trophy, with Country Life magazine sponsoring the competition for many decades. Winning such a respected and long‑running event marks a significant milestone for Oakham School’s Shooting community.
At a special presentation, Headmaster Henry Price awarded the team their trophy, while Head of Shooting Iain Reeves presented the students with their winners’ medals.
Our Shooting team will return to competition this weekend as they head to Birmingham Bisley, where they enjoyed great success last year, achieving some personal best performances and bringing home the Chairman’s Prize for Best All-Round Team Performance.
