Pupils Build Key Life Skills During Action-Packed Service Weekend
Pupils built key life skills during an action-packed Service Weekend – dedicated to co-curricular activities including DofE, CCF, and Voluntary Action.
In its new May slot, the weekend helped pupils prepare for their upcoming DofE Assessed Expeditions, building resilience, teamwork and planning skills through sailing on the Norfolk Broads, canoeing on the River Severn, and walking in Rutland and Lancashire.
Form 4 and 6 pupils doing CCF developed their resilience and teamwork skills at two cadet training centres. The CCF Army Section headed to Yardley Chase, Northamptonshire, for a full immersion in fieldcraft. Sleeping under bashas and living on rations, cadets tackled a range of tactical exercises, including section attacks, reconnaissance patrols, and ambushes. Meanwhile, CCF RAF cadets travelled to Inskip Training Centre, enjoying a weekend packed with adventurous training – from climbing and archery to flight simulators and air rifle sessions.
In addition, Form 6 pupils supported and ran a Phab Party at Rumble Live, organising an action-packed event for local young people with disabilities.
Oakham’s May Service Weekend was a brilliant showcase of Oakham’s commitment to developing well-rounded individuals who are ready to make a positive impact – both in school and beyond.
