Sensational Cup Win for 1st XI Boys Football Team

01st May 2026

Oakham School Boys Football is celebrating a landmark moment in its history after the 1st XI were crowned national champions in the Society of Heads Football Cup – the first Oakham side ever to lift the trophy.

But from the warm‑up onwards, Roberts said the squad were “locked in” and ready to rise to the occasion.

After a composed opening spell adjusting to the 4G surface, Oakham struck first. A superb through ball from Huw G released Hugo N, whose persistence earned a penalty. Hugo calmly converted to give Oakham a 1–0 lead, which the back four defended superbly until half‑time.

With momentum shifting, Oakham had to dig deep. “This was the moment that really tested us,” Roberts said. The breakthrough came with 15 minutes remaining when Form 4 pupil Jadon C won the ball brilliantly in midfield, glided past two defenders, and fed Fifth Former Freddie P, who squared for fellow Fifth Former Rollo S to finish clinically. “It was a fantastic team goal and exactly the response we needed,” Roberts added.

Roberts praised the squad’s character and commitment, concluding, “This group has set a new standard for Oakham football, and they fully deserve their place in our history.”
