Oakham School Pupils Triumph at Shooting Competition

16th June 2025

Oakham School’s shooting team is celebrating a weekend of remarkable success at the prestigious Birmingham Bisley Target Rifle competition.

Held at Kingsbury Range near Tamworth, the event brought together over 50 competitors from a broad range of ages and experience levels. Seven pupils represented Oakham in the Worcestershire & Herefordshire Rifle Association and Bromsgrove Rifle Club Open – with all but one competing in their first major competition.

Over the course of two days, the pupils competed in several formats, firing at distances of 300, 500, and 600 metres using iron-sighted rifles.

Among the standout achievements:

  • Year 10 pupil Henry delivered a near-perfect score of 74 out of 75 to win the 600-metre event – the highest score recorded all weekend.

  • Henry teamed up with fellow Year 10 pupil Isla to secure victory in the Sunday 500 and 600-metre aggregate, with Isla achieving a personal best of 48 out of 50.

  • Henry was also awarded the Under-19 Best Competitor Trophy for his overall performance.

  • The Oakham School team proudly brought home the Chairman’s Prize for Best All-Round Team Performance.

Master in Charge of Shooting, Iain Reeves, said: This was a tremendous performance from our pupils, especially considering how many were new to competitive shooting. Their focus, discipline, and teamwork shone through. We’re incredibly proud of them.”
