Meet the New Decem Senior Prefects
We’re proud to announce Oakham’s new Decem – a team of senior prefects chosen for their leadership, integrity, and dedication to making our School an inclusive and inspiring place to be.
Congratulations to our newly appointed student leaders:
Grace and Will – Heads of School
Winnie and Ruudi – Deputy Heads of School
Hannah B, Bea, Hannah C, Hugo, Ioan, Elsa, Finlay, Georgie, James, Ezrah, Marcus, and Abby.
The Decem hold one of the highest student leadership roles at Oakham School. Representing the entire student body, they play a vital role in School life: leading by example, championing pupil voice, and supporting the initiatives that make Oakham the dynamic and welcoming community it is.
Selected via a vigorous process, our Senior Prefects undergo a series of ‘big’ training sessions with corporate trainers, safeguarding experts and public speaking pros and then will meet weekly with SLT and advise on everything from bullying policies to the timetable. They all lead assemblies and mentor younger pupils and meet termly with the Trustees.
Head of Upper School Megan Fairley said: “Massive congratulations to everyone who put themselves forward; this takes great courage. Our pupils’ care and love for the School came out strongly from all 52 applications that we received.”
“The new Decem have already started strongly, showing a clear commitment to pupil voice and pupil wellbeing, and an enthusiasm for engaging with the senior team on things that really matter to pupils.”
Each member of the new Decem brings their own story, passion, and purpose to the role. Here’s a flavour of what motivates them:
“I’m committed to… ensuring that every student feels valued and supported.”
“[As] part of the Decem, I wish to continue the nurturing student legacy, facilitating an inviting environment for all members of our community.”
“I have become very proud of [Oakham]. I wish to preserve this sense of pride so that current and future pupils will also be proud of their school.”
“I [am] proud to represent and lead Oakham as part of the Decem and promote what makes Oakham School such a special community.”
“I am enthusiastic about giving back to the School… [and] am passionate about making a positive impact.”
We thank the outgoing Decem for their contribution to School life and wish the new Decem well for the year ahead.
