Oakham Celebrates Outstanding A-level and BTEC Results for the Class of 2025

14th August 2025

We are incredibly proud of our pupils and their achievements in this year’s A-level and BTEC results. Their hard work, focus, and commitment have paid off, with a fantastic set of outcomes across a wide range of subjects and pathways.

This year saw a notable increase in top grades, with 23% of all results awarded at A* or equivalent – a rise from 13% in 2023 and 20% in 2024. The combined A-level and BTEC results show that 45% of grades were A*-A, and 70% were A*-B, reflecting the strength and consistency of our academic provision. The overall pass rate rose to 99%, up from 98% last year.

“The pupils’ A-level and BTEC results today complement the strong outcomes that our International Baccalaureate pupils attained earlier this summer,” said Henry Price, Headmaster. “I’m incredibly proud of how the whole year group has performed across all their courses. At Oakham, we continue to offer a broad and balanced curriculum, and these results show how well young people thrive when given the opportunity to choose the pathway that suits them best.”

“We’ve seen a fantastic range of results across multiple subjects, showing excellence in breadth,” said Dr Leo Dudin, Deputy Head Academic. “Whether pupils are creating in Art & Design, curating in CCS, or analysing global trends in Economics and Geography, they are achieving at the highest levels. This year 7 pupils achieved straight A*s and 29 pupils achieved all A*-A grades, which is a testament to their dedication and the support they’ve received from both parents and staff.”

Dr Rachael Pearson, Head of Careers and Progression, added:

We are incredibly proud of our pupils’ achievements and the diverse range of university destinations they’ve secured. With the majority gaining places at their first-choice institutions – including Oxford, Durham, Exeter and London School of Economics and Political Scienceto study everything from Medicine, Law and Engineering to Psychology, Sports Science and International Relations, their success is a testament to how fully they have embraced every opportunity during their time at Oakham. We are delighted to see them now embarking on their exciting next chapters.

This year’s cohort was the first to follow our refined A-level programme, focusing on three subjects with increased teaching time. This change supported pupils in making more focused Sixth Form choices, aided by a structured programme of advice, taster sessions, and parental engagement, beginning in Form 4.

Choices include the range of subjects within different curriculum pathways, which then offer a variety of assessment styles to suit different learning preferences. For example:

  • Creative coursework-based subjects like Art & Design and Critical & Contextual Studies (CCS), where 80% of pupils achieved A*-A.
  • Our BTEC portfolio – Sport Science and Business Studies – blending coursework and modular exams across the two-year programme, in which results were particularly strong with 91% of pupils achieving a Distinction* or Distinction.
  • Subjects that help pupils understand the world such as Geography, Biology, Economics, and Mathematics, assessed totally by examination, where pupils have excelled across the board – Economics: 54% A*-A; Biology: 50% A*-A; Geography: 47% A*-A; Mathematics: 49% A*-A; Further Mathematics: 45% A*-A.

Our commitment to offering elite academic pathways – whether through A-levels, BTECs, or the IB – continues to deliver strong outcomes. These results reflect the distinctively holistic Oakham Experience: a journey of academic ambition, personal growth, and connection.

Good luck Class of ’25 on whichever pathway you choose, you’ll always be an Oakhamian so please keep in touch and know that our Careers and Leavers’ Support Team are available to help.
