Oakham School celebrated World Book Day last week by joining the national campaign to ‘Share a Story’ to help make story-sharing a habit and create readers for life. The national campaign aims to log a million stories between 27 February and 29 March – www.worldbookday.com/share-a-million-stories
Librarian, Miss Bernadette O’Hanlon, tells us more:-
“Throughout the week, stories were shared across year groups and across departments.
Bringing Shakespeare to life, English teacher Dr Emma Reddy read about the atmosphere in The Globe from Matt Haig’s How to Stop Time, to her Form 3 class, whilst Teacher of Politics and International Relations, Mr Joseph Sanders, selected The Ragged Trousered Philanthropist by Robert Tressel and Ayn Rand’s The Fountainhead for his Upper School pupils, who also brought in their own books to read.
In Houses, Mr Gum captivated the boys in Peterborough House whilst Lincoln girls had a murder mystery to solve courtesy of Robin Stevens.
On World Book Day itself (5 March), World Book Day books or a £1 book token were available from the Library issue desk and even more stories were shared.
The national campaign to ‘Share a Story’ runs until the end of the month.”
Every year Oakham Librarians organise events to celebrate ‘World Book Day’ and last year launched a Short Story competition receiving some outstanding entries.
