Bursaries at Oakham School
Oakham has given me more hope for the future by providing opportunities that I wouldn’t have had if I’d stayed at my previous school.Springboard Pupil
Founded in 1584 as a ‘free school’ for deserving scholars by Archdeacon Robert Johnson, Oakham School has a long tradition of supporting access to boys and girls from all backgrounds. The first pupils were 16 boys who read Latin, Hebrew and Greek at Archdeacon Johnson’s new school in Oakham.
In the spirit of our Founder, we believe providing an exceptional education to those who could not otherwise afford it is our moral duty. Education is a key driver of social mobility, and reducing educational inequality is inextricably linked to increased social equality.
The School remains committed to ensuring that its world-class education is available to all, regardless of circumstance. Oakham School currently provides means-tested fee support to 66 students, including two fully funded SpringBoard Bursary pupils. We hope to increase fee-assistance to over 100 pupils, and the number of fully-funded places to 16 by 2024, thus matching the same number of worthy scholars who started at Archdeacon Johnson’s school over 400 years ago.
Support a life-changing bursary and enrich not just the pupil who receives it, but the School and community as a whole.
