We were delighted and honoured to learn that Oakham School has been shortlisted for a Tatler Schools Award 2020. Oakham has been nominated for the ‘Public School of the Year’ Award – one of just six awards given each year from Tatler. The other awards are: Best Food, Unsung Hero, Lifetime Achievement, Prep School of the Year, and Best Head.
Only ‘the top prep and public schools in the UK’ are chosen to feature in Tatler’s Schools Guide and Oakham is delighted to have been included each year. It is a huge accolade to then be nominated for a Tatler Schools Guide Award– given how highly regarded the Guide is across the UK and, indeed, the world. As Tatler says, "Hundreds of trips, interviews and research culminate in a selection of 244 of the finest establishments in the nation – but who from this already elite bunch comes out on top?" Oakham is delighted to be one of just six schools to be nominated for the Award and we are proud to stand alongside Marlborough College, Reigate Grammar School, Sherborne Girls and Stonyhurst.
“It is sometimes easy to feel that we are, perhaps, a hidden gem in the Midlands,” says Henry Price, Headmaster. “This nomination is a reflection of the strength of our offer and the feeling of warmth towards the School.”
The School is looking forward to the Virtual Awards Ceremony, which takes place on the Tatler Schools Instagram channel (@tatlerschools) at 6pm on Tuesday 6 October.
If you haven’t already had the opportunity to read Oakham’s review in the Tatler Schools Guide, we urge you to do so. We are thrilled they said that “Oakham has been ahead of the curve for years.” It also mentioned that, “there are heaps of extracurriculars to choose from, boarding can be full or flexi and a rejigged house system means that nobody’s lonely over the weekend.” Also, that, “Pastoral care is ‘exceptional’ and despite being a large school, nobody seems to get lost in the system.”
The news of Oakham’s nomination in the Tatler Awards comes soon after Oakham won the title of ‘Great for all-rounders’ from The Week magazine in their ‘best of the best’ senior schools feature in its Independent Schools Guide. To read more about this award, please click here.
