Oakham School CCF Cadet made Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet

Congratulations to Alex (Form 7), a senior cadet from Oakham School CCF who has the privilege of becoming one of the Lord Lieutenant’s Cadets for the County of Rutland.

As the Queen’s personal representative in the County of Rutland, the Lord Lieutenant each year selects a very small number of cadets from the CCF and the community cadets (the Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps) to assist at formal civic events for the academic year. They also represent the wider cadet movement across the country.

Cadet Sergeant Major Alex applied and was accepted, and he had his investiture at Oakham Castle in front of an audience of local dignitaries, family and friends.

Alex said: “It’s a real honour to be appointed as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet for this year. I‘m really looking forward to attending quite a few high profile events this year and to represent the cadets to the general public.”

Contingent Commander Lt Col David Taylor said: “It’s a privilege to have one of our cadets be appointed as Lord Lieutenant’s Cadet this year. It embodies the spirit of service, loyalty and comradeship that the cadet movement represents, which itself was shown by the number of friends that attended the ceremony at the Castle. I’m am sure he will enjoy his year in the public eye.”
