Netballers selected for Loughborough Lightning Academy

Congratulations to Form 4 pupils Evie and Izzie who have been successfully selected into the U15 Loughborough Lightning Academy. Well done also to Form 5 pupil Milly who has been picked for the U17s.

All three girls are talented Sports Scholars at Oakham School and faced tough competition to compete for their places.

This year the trials were held virtually in-line with COVID safe procedures.  The girls were tested on their performance level and skills, which included  elevation jumps, ball handling and hopping distance. They will now receive weekly training from the best of the superleague club’s coaches (COVID-allowing). They  will also have opportunities to represent the competition squads and play against other superleague teams.

Director of Netball, Lauren Nicolls said, “Being a part of the Loughborough Lightning Academy is a great opportunity for the girls to improve their skills both individually and as a team. To have such level of talent at Oakham is exciting and I know it will only continue to grow.”

Further to the above successes, Lauren, who also plays for the Loughborough Lightning superleague senior squad has been re-signed for 2020-2021, which will be her ninth season, a fantastic achievement.
