Introducing our new Head of Psychology

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Oakham’s first Head of Psychology. Miss Charlotte Findlay will be joining Oakham to launch Psychology as our newest subject offering for both A-levels and the IB Diploma from September 2021.

“Charlotte brings with her a wealth of experience and we are incredibly excited to have her establish this new addition to our Social Sciences Faculty,” says Dr Leo Dudin, Deputy Head Academic.

Miss Findlay is currently the Lead Psychology and Health and Social Care teacher at Hinchingbrooke School in Cambridgeshire. She holds a degree in Psychosocial Studies along with a Masters in Counselling Psychology, and is currently undertaking a Masters in Education at the University of Leicester.

Impressively, over the last year, she has been collaborating with the British Psychological Society and The Association for the Teaching of Psychology to produce resources that 'Challenge White Psychology' and promote strategies to enhance learning through memory awareness. She has previously also supported students in their own research projects when she held the position of Head of EPQ.

Miss Findlay also holds a Mental Health First Aider qualification, which she puts to use in her current role of Wellbeing Lead at Hinchingbrooke – supporting staff and student wellbeing across the school.  In addition, she has volunteered for Cruse Bereavement Care as a Bereavement Counsellor and Mind as a Mental Health Support Worker as well as volunteering for HMP Peterborough, working as a Rehabilitation Mentor for ex-offenders.

On her appointment, Miss Findlay said: “I'm looking forward to joining the Oakham family and inspiring the first generation of Oakham Psychology students. I plan to quickly develop the department at Oakham in a range of ways. This includes introducing a Psychology Society and establishing interesting trips around the UK and perhaps overseas to enrich pupils’ experience of Psychology and to give them a deeper insight into the world.”
