Our second instalment of the Spring term's Music at Lunchtime series welcomed the multi-talented Jessica, who performed both on the flute and piano. She began with Ballade by Reinecke, a piece that demonstrated great lyricism and control in the opening phrases. The fiery middle section of the piece gave Jessica the opportunity to show her amazing technical proficiency. The piece concluded with a reprise of the opening theme.
Jessica then moved on to the piano performing two very contrasting pieces; a Rondo from Haydn's Sonata in C major, followed by two Préludes by Martinů. The Rondo was fast-paced and energetic, and Jessica demonstrated a wonderful sense of phrasing throughout the playful movement.
The mood completely turned on its head with the first Prélude en forme de Blues; it was moody, dark and mysterious. Jessica captured this mood perfectly. The final Prélude en forme de Danse changed the character once more; it was energetic and spirited giving a rousing finale to an excellent recital. Congratulations Jessica.
Next week we welcome Freddie for a trumpet recital.
