Form 1 pupils enjoy MYP Service and Action activities at Rutland Water

The culmination of Form 1 pupils’ MYP Service and Action programme this year saw them taking part in a series of activities on a gloriously sunny day at Rutland Water.

Head Librarian, Lucy Breag, tells us more:-

“Activities included litter picking to help Anglian Water maintain the environment for the hundreds of visitors who descend on Sykes Lane every week in the summer months as well as for the many species of wildlife that live there.

The pupils also practised compass skill tasks, gaining an important life skill and preparing them for service activities as they go through the school.

Another task was considering the impact of building dams and the ethics behind such decisions, so using knowledge recently acquired in Religion and Philosophy and Geography lessons in a local, real-world context.

The opportunity to work collaboratively with friends, spend time putting their classroom skills and knowledge into practice, and to enjoy being outside together was much appreciated by all.  Litter-picking proved to be a great success with a complete snake skin being the find of the day.”
