Two Oakham sailors Spike and James have won the Bronze medal in the RS Feva Junior (U14) sailing World Championships at Medemblik, Netherlands.
The pair competed against 352 sailors and dealt with up to Force 6 winds and challenging sea conditions. Spike and James sailed to success clinching third place in the Junior class beating competitors from all over the world. They were also placed a respectable 23rd place in the Bronze Fleet of the main regatta, which included adults.
Their first time sailing in this competition and visiting Medemblik, Spike and James attended the competition’s opening ceremony before embarking upon 5 days of racing.
Director of Sailing Nick Neve said, “The boys sailed together brilliantly and I am absolutely thrilled with the result. We have had a fantastic week of great sailing.” Nick continues, “I am incredibly proud of all the Oakhamians who competed in the Championships. It was a good experience for everyone and am delighted with their performance and teamwork.”
Well done Spike and James!
