We were delighted to welcome nearly 200 visiting Prep School musicians to Oakham School on Tuesday 8 October for our annual Prep Schools’ Music Day. Taking the exciting theme Best of Broadway, this year’s event offered opportunities for brass, percussion & woodwind players to perform in a massed band under the direction of Steve Foster (Head of Brass) & Keith Slade (Head of Woodwind), whilst singers joined forces under the direction of Peter Davis (Director of Music), ably accompanied by Anne Bolt (Head of Piano).
Our visitors enjoyed a terrific day of collective music-making, giving them a taste of the inspirational leadership and support offered to musicians at Oakham School. They also enjoyed more than a taste of the School’s excellent catering at lunch in the Barraclough, as well as taking refreshments between their rehearsals in and around Chapel.
The day culminated in a fantastic concert in Chapel, at which many visiting parents and staff joined us having enjoyed an excellent afternoon tea. The young musicians had made terrific progress, and wowed the audience with their performances of music from a range of great musicals, including Carousel, The Lion King, Matilda, Les Misérables, The Phantom of the Opera, Sweet Charity, West Side Story and Wicked. They also enjoyed hearing Oakham School’s Big Band and Chamber Choir, who performed at either end of the concert. The grand finale – You’ll never walk alone – was a great testament to their achievements during the day.
Thank you to all our visitors from Aldwickbury School, Beachborough School, Beeston Hall School, Brooke Priory School, Copthill School, Grantham Preparatory School, Highfields School, Kingshott School, Old Buckenham Hall School, Spratton Hall, St Hugh's School, Swanbourne House School & Witham Hall Preparatory School.
