Over Easter, a group of Sixth Form French students spent a week doing work experience in Montpellier in the South of France. They undertook a variety of placements, ranging from working at a training centre for adults, a health food store, a dog grooming and at fashion stores and boutiques.
Oakham students were highly praised by their French employers who were most impressed, not only with their spoken French, but also their willingness to work alongside their French colleagues to become part of the team for the week of their placements.
In addition to experiencing the world of work in a French-speaking environment, the group also had plenty of opportunities to sample the historical, cultural, social and culinary delights of life in a French city. Montpellier’s stunning Place de la Comedie, Promenade du Peyrou, cathedral and picturesque cobbled old town provided the perfect backdrop for a challenging, but rewarding week.
