Oakham’s Netball teams have completed a clean sweep at the Leicestershire and Rutland County Championships by winning all three titles: the U14, U16 and U19s.
The U14 girls beat Loughborough High 12-8 and the U16 team beat Leicester Grammar School 16-13 at the Leicestershire Finals Night held at De Montfort University. Meanwhile, earlier in the term, the U19 team also claimed the County title after sailing through their Round Robin tournament winning all 8 games.
Oakham netballers have a strong record of becoming County Champions with two or more teams winning the title over the past four years alone.
Acting Director of Netball, Isobel Beighton, said, “The girls should all be proud of their performances. They showed teamwork and versatility and played some fantastic netball right from the starting whistle of their games.”
All three teams will now progress through to the Regional tournament, which will be held on 25 January at Repton.
Meanwhile Oakham netballers have also been picked to play for top clubs.
Izzi, Joanna and Evie (Form 3) as well as Zara, Alice and Milly (Form 4) have been picked for the U15 Loughborough Lightning hub.
The Wasps hub has also selected Daisy and Sophie (both in Form 5) for their U17 side, and Freddie (Form7) for the U19 Wasps Long Squad.
Wasps and Loughborough Lightning are two of the ten teams that compete in the elite Netball Superleague, and the girls will now receive weekly training from the best of the clubs' coaches. They will also have opportunities to represent Wasps and Lightning over the year.
In addition to the above selections, Izzi (Form 3) along with Katie (Form 2) have been selected to be part of the Leicestershire County Netball Programme.
Oakham’s Director of Netball Lauren Nicholls, who is currently on maternity leave, has also signed up to play for the Loughborough Lightning 2020 season.
