Oakham School welcomed back Old Oakhamians and current Leicester Tigers rugby players Jack Van Poortvliet and Sam Costelow, alongside fellow Tigers player James Whitcombe, to help coach the U13A rugby squad in their preparations for their forthcoming competitions.
Jack Van Poortvliet captained the Oakham School 1st XV team before going on to play for England U18s as Scrum Half. He made his Leicester Tigers First Team debut this season.
Sam Costelow played for Wales U20 last season in the World Cup and also has just made his senior team debut for Leicester Tigers.
James Whitcombe is the England U18 prop and the son of former Leicester Tigers player Martin Whitcombe.
During the training, their collective expertise was put to good use as they put the boys through their paces. At the end of the session, they spent some time with the team fielding some questions about their rugby careers.
Director of Rugby Andy Rice said, “The U13A rugby team loved being coached by such talented players, and it is great that they can benefit from their expertise. It is always a pleasure to welcome back OOs who help to inspire the next generation of rugby stars.”
