U13 and U15 Oakham tennis teams compete in the Regional Finals

The U13 and U15 girls’ tennis teams recently competed in the Regional Finals Aegon League competition after having won local matches at County level.

Assistant Director of Sport and Tennis (Girls), Peta Girdwood, tells us more:-

“The U13s faced tough competition in the quarter-finals against King Edward VI Camp Hill School but Violet, Daisy, Orla and Liv played some outstanding tennis, resulting in a victory for Oakham 10-8. They then played in the semi-finals against Malvern. It was a very tight game with a 6-6 tie but they were outplayed in the ‘shoot out’, missing out on a place in the finals by a slim margin. The resulting playoffs against Denstone for 3rd and 4th place were also very close and despite wins in the single matches, they finished 4th with the final score 4-8.

Meanwhile, the U15s, who were granted a bye in the quarter-finals, headed straight through to the semi-finals against King Edward VI Camp Hill. The team of Vasilina, Lauren, Maisy and Kate blew their opposition out of the water winning 10-2. They then faced The Chase in the finals. Although not reflective of the set score, there were some incredibly tight rallies with the girls pushing as hard as they could. The U15 teams’ combined result was 4-8, placing them 2nd in the competition overall.

All the girls’ attitude and focus were second to none and for both teams to finish in the top 4 is a brilliant achievement. We are very proud of them.”
