Oakhamians have been awarded an impressive 170 of the top ‘9’ grades, in this year’s GCSE examinations – a 9% increase on last year’s results.
“It is wonderful to see so many Oakhamians achieve such fantastic grades,” says Oakham’s new Headmaster, Henry Price.
“Celebrating those pupils who gained the top grades is easy, but it is far more important to keep results in both perspective and context. I congratulate all those pupils who have achieved their personal best. Each pupil has their own story and they should celebrate their own success, rather than comparing themselves to their peers, news stories or results tables.”
Henry continues, “These grades are a culmination of pupils’ hard work, along with the dedicated support and efforts of Oakham’s teaching and pastoral staff. We must not forget their parents who have, undoubtably, played their part during the challenge that is examination time.”
“In addition, I would like to shine a light on the breadth and quality of Oakham’s curriculum. Whilst students excelled in core subjects such as English Language (with an impressive 83% achieving A*-A grades – or the equivalent 9–7), results days give us an opportunity to celebrate some of the specialist subjects that continue to thrive here at Oakham. For example, two thirds of those students taking Latin or Music achieved the top results: an impressive A* or grades 9–8.”
“I’m very much looking forward to getting to know, support and challenge this year group as they move into the Upper School,” concludes Henry. “The fresh start of the Sixth Form is an exciting time, and I am sure they will go on to flourish in one of our post-GCSE pathways, be it A-levels or BTEC, or by taking the IB Diploma, which will be a springboard for their future academic success and intellectual enrichment.”
